Is there a charge to place courses on the MyiCourse™ site and/or create an online university?

No, it’s free for those who wish to provide free courses. Really, it’s free! We believe everyone should have the ability to teach others. Not all worthwhile information resides inside a classroom. Remember our motto, “Flattening the world one course at a time.” We believe education should not have barriers. We are as free as Craig’s List. A subscription fee applies to those sites that choose to sell their courses and conduct commerce, or those who utilize several specialize features.

Can I charge people to take my course?

You bet. If you create a MyiCourse™ university, you can create courses which are free, or which require payment. After the course is authored, you determine the price you feel equates with the knowledge you are trying to convey.  Then go to your MyiCourse™ sub-domain and set up one of the payment gateways in the set-up section of the website.

Can I sell advertising for my courses?

Yes! There are a variety of income opportunities with your MyiCourse™ site. Banner advertisements are the most prominent advertisement opportunities. MyiCourse™ allows you to become your own ad agency. The banner ads option can be activated and is available on a monthly subscription basis of $35/month. Although you pay a monthly charge to MyiCourse™ you can sell this space to anyone who wants to advertise at your site. (This is the only way that MyiCourse™ will charge you for use of the platform. If you don’t want to advertise, the site is free. If you want to advertise, we require $35 per month.) For example, if you know 5 companies that want to have their name associated with your course content, and each company is willing to pay $50 per month, you can generate $250 per month. (Really, the amount is $215 after paying $35 for the banner ad option)!  Remember, you are in charge. There are no obstacles.

How does MyiCourse™ make money?

MyiCourse™ is chiefly supported by income from the advertising banner on each site and for those few sites that choose to utilize the highest level of MyiCourse functionality for commerce. Those sites that use MyiCourse for commerce are charged a monthly subscription fee to access the credit card processing interface for PayPal. Those who provide free courses are able to use MyiCourse at no cost. Those site owners who sell courses also help support MyiCourse for the entire community. MyiCourse collects 10% of the retail sale price at the time of purchase and this helps offset costs and fund future development.

How do I find a course?

All courses created by the public university platforms can be found by the MyiCourse™ search engine. The search window is always visible to allow you to search for courses created by others who want to flatten the world as well. If you search and don’t find a subject you want, maybe you should think of creating a course on this topic yourself.

How do I register to take a course?

Registration is simple and only requires two pieces of information; a valid e-mail address and a password. You only have to register once to take any course anywhere on the myicourse platform.  Click Login in the upper right hand corner and fill in the registration for new users. Remember your user name and password.  If you forget your email address...well let's not go there.  If you forget your password, simply click the forgot password option.

Does my registration work for all courses?

Yes, once you register the first time with your e-mail and password, it will work on all other MyiCourse sites. Some sites may ask for additional user information. We also hate, as users of the internet, having to re-register time and time again. Remember, we are users just like you.  We, like everyone else hate those irritating and annoying pop-up ads, which is why we do not allow them on our site!

Are all of the courses free?

No, however, many of the courses are free. Some courses do require payment. That is the beauty of the MyiCourse™ site. We allow commerce and a marketplace economy to determine the worth of the intellectual property created on our platforms.

How do I know which course is best?

All courses can be rated by the students after completion. The rating of course work helps others determine the value. The 5 star rating can be found on the search page results.  We only allow the rating to occur once someone has completed the course work on that particular cource.

How do I know what’s in the course before I take it?

First, go to the MyiCourse™ home page and enter a search term for the subject you are interested in. For example, enter “How to install a ceiling fan.” The search results page will list courses that match your search request. The search result will also contain a link for course “details.” This details page will describe the course, the rating and issues such as the inclusion of downloadable notes, images, audio, video, PDF files and additional comments.

Can I create my own courses?

Of course, that’s what the site is for! Go to the MyiCourse™ home page and go through the simple three step process of creating your own MyiCourse™ university. After completing the registration, you will be taken to your MyiCourse™ university. Login and you will have access to the administration functions.  Once you create your own MyiCourse universtiy, you can create as many courses, on whatever topic you choose.

Do I have to have programming or HTML skills to make a course?

No! The MyiCourse™ interface is almost totally  WYSIWYG, or “What you see is what you get.” If you can operate a word processor, you can create page content. However, for those who have HTML coding skills, this option is available as well.

Can I charge people to take my course?

Yes! You may either provide courses at no cost or you may elect to charge a fee. The choice is yours. If you are going to charge the public to take courses, you will need to create a payment gateway account to process credit card purchases. For more detail, see the next question.

How do I process credit cards for my courses?

MyiCourse™ encourages commerce and payment for intellectual property. Those who wish to charge for a course will need to establish a payment gateway account with an outside company, such as Paypal. Login to your new site and click “set-up.” Then choose “Payment Configuration.” This will show all companies that interface with the MyiCourse™ system. Enter the appropriate information on the company you choose, click the “enable” box and then click “save.” You have now connected your credit card processing. For a more detailed course, please go to the MyiCourse™ learning center.

How do other people see and take my course?

People will normally find your course by searching the MyiCourse database with specific search terms. You will also want to drive people to your specific courses from other web sites such as blogs or by distributing the URL address in company literature, etc. The student will then register and can take your course.

How do I know if the course was completed?

Accountability is a key component of distance education. All courses on the MyiCourse™ system are timed. Each student will be able to see how much time was spent on each course. All tests are graded and the transcript of completed courses will also include test grades.

Can I sell advertising for my courses?

You bet. You may sell banner advertisements on your site. MyiCourse™, should you decide to sell banner ads, will charge $35 per month to help offset our costs. There is no limit to the number of banner ads and you may sell them for any fee you decide is appropriate.  Some of our platform users have sold $500 worth of advertising for “free” courses they authored on their site. With a $35 a month overhead cost, this leaves them with a net of $465 per month.

Is there a limit on the number of courses I can make or take?

No. The only limit is your knowledge and your passion.

Can I make a course on any subject?

We encourage courses on nearly every subject but there are a few limitations on inappropriate materials. Please see the user agreement. In short, any course work that might be harmful, is specifically prohibited, e.g. “How to make a bomb.”

What happens if I place copyrighted or inappropriate material in my course?

Per the user agreement, MyiCourse™ reserves the right to remove courses and materials that violate the user agreement.  While we encourage free expression, we do respect the intellectual rights of others.

What browser and operating system should I use with MyiCourse™?

In general, the courses located on MyiCourse™ can be viewed with many older computers and even with modem connections. This is not the suggested method for using MyiCourse to create course content. MyiCourse works best with newer computer systems with higher amounts of RAM and a broad-band connection. The web browser on the computer may actually be a bigger issue. No browser is perfect and occasional incompatibilities may be encountered.

Users of Microsoft Windows OS will find MyiCourse™ works well with Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox.  Macintosh users will find the site works well with Safari, Chrome and Forefox. All users are urged to switch browsers when an incompatibility is found.

Who owns the course content that I create?

You do! Not us!  You create it; you own it. (It's inside our user agreement, if you don't believe us!)  Remember, we have developed the Myicourse site to allow everyone to convey thoughts via the internet.  "Put your mind at ease, if you create it, you own it."
